How to Take Care of Your Skin Naturally: My Favorite DIY Recipes

ingredients to take care of skin naturally

We spend a lot of time and money on skin care products, but is it really worth it? We have some great DIY recipes to help you take care of your skin naturally. They’ll help your skin stay radiant and beautiful. And they won’t drain your finances!

Healthy Skin Begins on the Inside.

Let’s talk about why we need to change our mindset about how we take care of our skin. Skin care isn’t just about what we put on our faces. It’s important to care for the rest of your body as well. When we neglect our bodies, it shows in how we look and feel.

  • Begin with staying hydrated. No amount of lotion or cream compensates for dehydration from within.
  • Eat a diet high in nutrient and anti-oxidant rich fruits and vegetables.
  • Get your vitamin A and vitamin C—preferably from your diet. Both vitamins are essential for healthy skin.
  • Don’t smoke—or quit. The damage caused by smoking isn’t limited to your face. All your skin (and body) suffers.

Why Care for Your Skin with Home-made Products?

There are plenty of natural products in health food stores. However, no matter what the product, some type of preservative has been added. If you’re sensitive, that could irritate your skin.

In addition some type of packaging is necessary. We can try to be kinder to the environment. However, there’s nothing kinder than eliminating the need to recycle at all. Take care of your skin naturally by making skin-friendly beauty treatments in your own kitchen for a fraction of the cost of commercial products.

Take Care of Your Skin with these Natural DIY Recipes.

There are so many beauty recipes you can use to take care of your skin naturally. In this section, we’ll share simple recipes to help you glow. Every recipe uses all-natural ingredients that are inexpensive and easy to find!

Honey Rice Flour Scrub

This first recipe is an invigorating scrub that requires just two ingredients: honey and rice flour. Simply mix together a tablespoon of honey and a tablespoon of rice powder in a small bowl. Spread the mixture over your face and wait one minute before rinsing it off with warm water.

Soothing Hydration Mask

This second recipe is a soothing mask that will help hydrate dry, sensitive skin. It’s made from two ingredients: plain whole milk Greek yogurt and fresh strawberries. Mash two large strawberries in a bowl until they release their juice. Then add 2 Tbsp. yogurt, stirring until the mixture is smooth.  Apply this mask on your face, and leave for 15 minutes before washing it off with cool water.

Exfoliating Scrub

This exfoliating scrub helps you take care of you skin naturally by maintaining a healthy pH balance. Made with baking soda, salt, brown sugar, coconut oil, and water, the brown sugar helps to offset the alkalinity of the baking soda. Mix 1 tsp. baking soda with 1 Tbsp. coconut oil until combined. Add 1 Tbsp. Himalayan salt and 1 tbsp. brown sugar until they form into a paste-like texture. You may use at this stage, or add water until it’s the consistency of sour cream. Use anywhere on the body where you have rough skin. Rinse with warm water.

Oatmeal Face Mask

Oatmeal is a wonderful ingredient for your skin, especially when you want to soothe skin irritations naturally. You can add oatmeal to your bath to relieve dry itchy skin.

For a facial mask that alleviates the effects of cold and wind, mix one tablespoon of oatmeal flour (just whiz oatmeal in a blender) with one tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of milk. Massage this mixture onto your face, and leave for five minutes. You may do this every day.

Lemon Juice and Coconut Oil Scrub

Lemon juice contains alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) that work as a natural skin exfoliant. If you make this simple scrub, it can help to brighten your complexion and leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.

Combine 1/2 cup coconut oil, 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1 tablespoon sugar and a pinch of salt. Use on your face and body.

Best used in the shower!

Foot Scrub

It’s easy to neglect your feet. They’re often covered up, and we tend to pay more attention to our face and hands when we get out of the shower. But there are a few easy things you can do for your feet that will make them feel amazing!

One of the most common foot problems is dry skin on the soles. This can be caused by the cold weather or hardwood floors that suck moisture from your skin. To combat this, try scrubbing your feet with a mixture of baking soda and olive oil twice a week.

Another way to keep your foot skin healthy and soft is by massaging them with coconut oil before you go to bed. Put on some ankle socks before hopping into bed!

Grapefruit Body Mist

This recipe smells delicious and will leave your skin feeling refreshed.

Mix equal parts grapefruit juice, water, and glycerin in a spray bottle. Then put some essential oil drops in the mix. You can choose whichever you prefer!

I like using a small glass spray bottle like these you can get on Amazon. Just strain the mixture to prevent clogging. Store in the refrigerator.
